Our Story
Novum Advisory began with four friends and coworkers who shared a passion for improving governmental accounting services. While working in state government, they saw the growing need for CPAs who could specialize in audits and consulting engagements tailored to local governments. What began as, "Someone needs to do this" became "We can do this!"
In January 2024, Novum Advisory was founded to help counties, schools, and cities navigate audits, consulting, and financial compliance.
The name "Novum" means "new beginnings" in Latin—a reflection of our innovative approach to governmental accounting and our commitment to helping our clients and fellow CPA firms succeed.
Meet Our Team
Stephanie Palmertree
Stephanie co-founded Novum after serving as Deputy State Auditor and Director of the Financial and Compliance Division for the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor (OSA). She led financial and federal audits for the State of Mississippi, school districts, counties, and state agencies while delivering extensive professional education on auditing standards. Previously, she held leadership roles at the Mississippi Museum of Art and CPA firms specializing in governmental accounting. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s from Mississippi College and a Master’s from Mississippi State University. She is a CPA, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Chartered Global Management Accountant with over 18 years of experience.
Angela Mire
Angela co-founded Novum after leading the Agency Audit Division at OSA, overseeing Mississippi’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Single Audit. She directed audits for state agencies, conducted compliance reviews, and provided training in governmental accounting standards. Angela previously worked in private industry and at a national CPA firm as an audit supervisor. She holds a Bachelor’s and MBA from Mississippi College, is a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner, and has over 25 years of audit and accounting experience.
Jason Ashley
Jason co-founded Novum after serving as Deputy Director of OSA’s Financial and Compliance Division, where he oversaw audits for state agencies, schools, and local governments. He has trained auditors statewide on legal compliance, school audits, and Single Audits. Jason holds Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Accountancy from Mississippi State University and previously worked in private industry before joining OSA as an auditor and supervisor. With years of experience in both public and private sectors, Jason brings expertise in financial and governmental auditing.
Michael Torres
Michael co-founded Novum after leading OSA’s Intra-Divisional Audit Division, where he advanced audit techniques and facilitated fraud investigations through data analytics. He also directed Mississippi’s ACFR and Single Audit efforts. Previously, Michael worked as a supervisor at the Defense Contract Audit Agency, a financial controller, and a senior audit manager. He holds a Bachelor’s from Mississippi State University and a Master’s from Jackson State University. A CPA with over 15 years of experience, Michael is known for his expertise in auditing standards and innovative approaches to governmental auditing.
